Rona Perlman's current solo exhibition "Close to Home" is a direct result of the last two years in which most of her artistic pursuit and creative endeavors have shifted away from the studio and towards home due to her pregnancy during the pandemic, the birth of her daughter and her first year as a (mostly) stay-at-home mom. Therefore, naturally, the themes are family life and motherhood.
These circumstances have led her to focus on drawing since it is a fast and dry medium.
It is an authentic, figurative narrative drawing with a strong affinity for romance. Ranging from figurative to abstract and scribbled elements. It is the result of an intensive process of exploring the medium and deepening the narrative content.
The exhibition hits close to home. It is real and authentic in which the artist shares and reveals before us, her personal and private world, the primordial world of motherhood as a powerful experience. The medium of drawing allows her to express and explore this fresh and great change in her life, which allows her to recharge the works with an abundance of feelings and emotions that convey optimism, joy, warmth, and love alongside anxiety and exhaustion.
